7.3-magnitude earthquake hits coast off Japan's Fukushima prefecture
A 7.3-magnitude earthquake hit eastern Japan on Wednesday, cutting power to millions of homes and leading to a tsunami advisory being issued around the Fukushima prefecture, where a 2011 quake caused a disaster at a nuclear power plant. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida later said "no abnormalities" had been detected at any of the country's nuclear plants. A bullet train derailed near Fukushima as a result of the earthquake but no injuries were reported, he said at a press conference.

Bill Dodd urges all to get flu shot
What’s worse than a bad influenza season? A bad flu season on top of a pandemic. The possibility of such a “twindemic” this fall is a threat to the public’s health like never before. The collision of these two diseases could strain our medical system by exposing our healthcare workforce and other essential workers to yet another serious respiratory illness, overwhelming both our testing capability and health system capacity.

Why Zealandia is so different from other continents
Three years ago, the identification of Zealandia as a continent made global headlines. Now, newly published results from our scientific drilling expedition reveal the largely submerged Zealandia continent, which stretches across five million square kilometers beneath the southwest Pacific Ocean, was shaped by two tectonic events. First, it was ripped away from Australia and Antarctica, and then it was carved by forces that started the Pacific Ring of Fire.
5 Ways to Minimize Falls in Senior Care Facilities
In the United States, one in four people aged 65 and over has a fall every year — and, sadly, an older adult dies from a fall every 19 minutes. Falls are a leading cause of fatal injury for older adults, and the financial toll is expected to increase and may reach as high as $67.7 billion in 2020. Fall prevention is essential not just because it helps to prevent injuries, but because it helps people maintain independence as the body ages.
Smith: Blount should spend on roads
Editor By attending the Blount County Commission meetings and questioning Blount County’s option to spend $125,000 for a random industrial park, we have come to respect the Blount County commissioners. Our four commissioners – Allen Armstrong, Dean Calvert, Mike Painter and Nick Washburn – the financial planner, John Bullard and county engineer – are great assets to our county. If you happen to be like me and had not been attending meetings, they are now live-streamed on Facebook.

Local students art work showcased at Baltimore Woods
Nature captivates and artists are inspired, regardless of how young or old they might be. Take, for example, Samantha DiMarco, a 12th grader at Marcellus High School: “I love to paint water and sky because it is constantly changing. . . never the same. It is so dynamic.” Samantha’s painting along with dozens of other works of art by local students will be on exhibit at Baltimore Woods Nature Center this month.

Editorial: Taking responsibility
In less than two weeks, Oklahoma could come to a standstill. There are 694,816 students in Oklahoma’s K-12 public schools, according to the most recent data available from the state Department of Education. They reside in about 429,000 households around the state, meaning that approximately 30 percent of Oklahoma’s households include school-age children. And if the state’s teachers walk out on April 2 as promised, most of those households are going to be affected.
If This Bill Passes, People In South Carolina Will Be Penalized For Wearing Saggy Pants
Back when I was a teenager in high school, they were all around me, everywhere I looked. Boys (and sometimes, even men) wearing jeans that almost seemed to defy gravity, but were held in place just below their buttocks with a tight belt. You could say boxer shorts were a common sight for me in school and in public back then, and, if we’re being honest, still sometimes today.
This simple maths riddle is stumping the internet - see if you can solve it
I’ve never been the best at math. Sure, elementary problems involving adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing were a cinch for me, as they were for most of my fellow classmates. Even pre-algebra and algebra were pretty easy for me back in junior high, but when I entered high school and started taking pre-calculus, that’s where I started struggling. Like I said before, I’m no genius when it comes to math. It’s difficult for me.
Is Index Investing As Diversified As You Think?
As an active trader/investor, I spend many hours each day conducting my due diligence on the markets. This involves reading many articles/opinion pieces about the factors influencing the direction of the broader markets as well as my individual equities. I love when I come across information that furthers my understanding of why markets move the way they do. This past week, I discovered something quite interesting regarding the composition of the S&P 500 that I felt would be great to pass along.
A solid foundation for development begins in early childhood
Generally speaking, babies are born with the number of brain cells they will have for life. However, at birth the cells are isolated due to limited connections within the same brain area as well as connections to other parts of the brain.Over time, such connections are made with the majority of these developing from birth to 5 years of age. As connections are formed, “microcircuits” develop to support more complex brain functioning.
Handstand Training: Fun Progressions to Build Stability and Strength - Girls Gone Strong

It is important to strengthen your joints in static positions prior to adding heavy loads or a higher volume of ballistic movements for which your joints are not ready.
2 Bodyweight Workouts You Can Do When Life Gets Busy - Girls Gone Strong
Whether it’s summer break or the holiday season, certain times of the year bring more travel, or at the very least take us out of our everyday routines with outings, celebrations, and out of town guests — and for many of us who are parents, a lot more time with the kiddos on break from school. To make room for so much fun stuff, something’s gotta give. That something is quite often our training, which seems to slip to the bottom of the list without much of a fight.
