NEW MADRID COUNTY, Mo. (KFVS) - A suspect is dead after a high-speed police chase in southeast Missouri ended in a crash. According to New Madrid County Sheriff Joey Higgerson, the New Madrid Police Department responded to a call for a man with a gun at Blades Drive at around noon on June 24. When officers arrived, the suspect took off in an SUV. New Madrid County deputies joined in the chase, and the suspect led officers to Portageville.

Second autopsy connected to Sikeston in-custody death complete, coroner says

SIKESTON, Mo. (KFVS) - The Scott County Coroner says a second autopsy conducted on the Sikeston man who died while in police custody last week is now complete. Coroner Cody Caudle says a forensic pathologist out of St. Louis conducted the examination on 44-year-old Lloyd Gilmore, and his body has now been turned over to the funeral home of his family’s choosing.

SEMO DPS chief faces criminal charges connected to police academy exam

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - The head of the University Police Department at Southeast Missouri State now faces four criminal charges related to his conduct during the December 2025 Missouri Peace Officer License Exam given at the SEMO Police Academy. Dr. Rich Flotron is charged with two felony counts of forgery and two misdemeanor counts of purposely violating the state law governing the police licensing exam. According to online court records, he’ll be in court on Thursday morning, July 16.
