Summerton residents raise safety concerns after police department dissolved

SUMMERTON, S.C. (WIS) - Residents are raising concerns about public safety after town leaders voted to dissolve the Summerton Police Department. The Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office will take over law enforcement responsibility under a new agreement. Under a $200,000 agreement, the town will pay to add two new full-time deputies to the sheriff’s office, who will patrol and respond within the town. The town is also handing over usable law enforcement equipment and three police cars.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - The Richland County Sheriff’s Department is holding a press conference on developments in their investigation of a fatal shooting that took place last Sunday. The shooting that happened outside a Richland County restaurant and club known as the Jerk Hut this past weekend. 25-year-old Ty’Shon Vogt of Irmo was shot and killed, while five others were injured in the shooting.
