MULLINS, SC (WMBF) - A Montana man said a dream boat restoration job ended with his money gone and his collectors boats hundreds of miles away in the pee dee. Jeff Patnode said he searched nationwide for someone to restore two rare 1986 Correct Craft Silver Nautique boats. In 2023, Patnode hired Keith Rust for the job but said his boats have been stuck at Rust’s place in Mullins ever since.

‘Corrupt leadership’: Anonymous letter from officers calls for changes within Horry County police

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - An anonymous letter from officers inside the Horry County Police Department is criticizing department leadership, and the department said it never received it. WMBF News received an email from someone identifying themselves as an HCPD officer using a “John Doe” pseudonym, which included a letter they said was sent to every member of Horry County Council. The letter, received by council on May 12, included an indictment of department leadership.

‘Lets go higher’: Myrtle Beach high jumper breaks 43-year state record, leads nation

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A Myrtle Beach High School track star now leads the nation in high jump after breaking a state record that stood for more than four decades. Julian Brown, a rising senior, cleared 7 feet 4 inches in April at the Beach Run Invitational. The jump was Brown’s personal best and broke the previous state high school record of 7 feet 1 inch set in 1983. Brown, who goes by J-J, is a triple-threat athlete who also plays football and basketball.
