PRATTVILLE, Ala. (WSFA) - As America approaches its 250th birthday celebration, the Prattville Fire Department has found a creative way to turn trash into patriotic treasure. An American flag made from old fire hoses hangs in the fire department as a symbol of gratitude and love of country. Instead of scrapping the decommissioned hoses, they decided to turn them into an art piece for what they call their home away from home.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - Civil Rights pioneer Claudette Colvin has died, her family and foundation confirmed Tuesday afternoon. She was 86. “To us, she was more than a historical figure. She was the heart of our family, wise, resilient, and grounded in faith,” the Claudette Colvin Foundation said in a statement announcing her death.

Thomas passed away today at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery.
