Single-cell profiling and genetic regulation of alternative polyadenylation in the human brain
Abstract Alternative polyadenylation (APA) has a central role in regulation of the fate of mRNA and exhibits high variability in the brain and in neurons. However, brain APA regulation has not been mapped at cell type resolution, and the genetic control of APA in brain cell types and its contribution to genetic disease have remained unclear.

How does government innovation preference influence green development? Evidence from the Yangtze River Economic Belt
Abstract Scientific and technological innovation is a critical driver of green development (GD), and government innovation preference (GIP) plays a significant role in shaping this process. This study investigates the impact and underlying mechanisms of GIP on GD using panel data from 108 prefecture-level and above cities in China’s Yangtze River Economic Belt (YREB), spanning the years 2011 to 2021.
Tau aggregates cause reactivation of transposable DNA elements, leading to Z-RNA–ZBP1-mediated neuronal death
|
Abstract Once tau aggregates are formed, their neurotoxicity significantly contributes to neuronal death and cognitive decline in tauopathies, with Alzheimer’s disease being the most well-known example. Despite its central pathogenic role, however, effective therapeutic strategies targeting the neurotoxicity of tau remain poor. Here we demonstrate the pathogenic role of neuronal cell death in tau-related neurodegeneration (PS19 mouse model).

Chromatin remodeling factor BAF155 coordinates oligodendroglial-neuronal communications linked to regional myelination and autism-like behavioral deficits in mice | Nature Communications
Abstract Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are neurodevelopmental disorders associated with synaptic deficits. Oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPCs) are the only type of glial cells that establish direct synaptic connections with neurons within the central nervous system (CNS). However, the mechanism that results in the delicate construction of OPC-neuron synaptic connections remain poorly understood.

Iowa doesn't have enough OB-GYNs. Is the state's abortion ban part of the problem? Jonna Quinn was initially thrilled when she got her first job after residency, working as an OB-GYN in Mason City, Iowa. It was just an hour down the road from her hometown of West Bend, where she grew up on a farm. This story was produced in partnership with KFF Health News. But the hospital started …
Laryngeal neurofibroma: case report and review of the literature
Introduction Neurofibromatosis, an array of genetic disorders, consists of two distinct autosomal dominant disorders: neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) and neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2) (1). It is typified by irregularities in the development of neural tissue, with an approximate incidence of 1 in 3,000 live births (2). The condition most commonly presents as cutaneous and subcutaneous neurofibromas, benign tumors that affect the skin and underlying tissues (3).

Accommodation Strategies in Education: Exploring Jesuit Textbook Publication in Modern Shanghai
1. Introduction Since the 1870s, the Jesuit Zi-ka-wei 徐家匯 compound has transformed into a prominent center for publishing, playing a vital role in science, education, and culture in modern Shanghai. Originally a religious and charitable enclave, this triangular area now contributes to global knowledge dissemination. Through comprehensive publications of monographs and periodicals, Zi-ka-wei integrates regional knowledge into the broader fabric of global civilization.
Focal length switchable metalens based on vanadium dioxide
A metalens is a flat lens that can control the phase of light so that dispersed light can be reconcentrated. This study devised a tunable metalens with a switchable focal length based on the phase transition properties of vanadium dioxide (${{\rm VO}_2}$). The unit structure comprises three layers from bottom to top: gold, polyimide, and two square resonant rings. The metalens can not only transform incident x-polarized waves into y-polarized waves but also achieve beam focusing simultaneously.

A ZBP1 isoform blocks ZBP1-mediated cell death
Abstract ZBP1 is an interferon-induced nucleic acid (NA) sensor that senses unusual Z-form NA (Z-NA), a type of left-handed nucleic acid. More than that, the binding of ZBP1 with Z-NA promotes cell death and inflammation. However, the mechanisms that dampen ZBP1 activation to fine-tune inflammatory responses are unclear. Here we characterize a short isoform of ZBP1 (referred to as ZBP1-S) as an intrinsic suppresser of the inflammatory signaling mediated by full-length ZBP1.

The whole ocean is a large ecosystem, including many different levels of marine ecosystems.
TMEM25 inhibits monomeric EGFR-mediated STAT3 activation in basal state to suppress triple-negative breast cancer progression - Nature Communications
Abstract Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a subtype of breast cancer with poor outcome and lacks of approved targeted therapy. Overexpression of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is found in more than 50% TNBC and is suggested as a driving force in progression of TNBC; however, targeting EGFR using antibodies to prevent its dimerization and activation shows no significant benefits for TNBC patients.

Gut stem cell necroptosis by genome instability triggers bowel inflammation
Abstract The aetiology of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a multifactorial interplay between heredity and environment1,2. Here we report that deficiency in SETDB1, a histone methyltransferase that mediates the trimethylation of histone H3 at lysine 9, participates in the pathogenesis of IBD. We found that levels of SETDB1 are decreased in patients with IBD, and that mice with reduced SETDB1 in intestinal stem cells developed spontaneous terminal ileitis and colitis.
Defective Replication Stress Response Is Inherently Linked to the Cancer Stem Cell Phenotype
Blockade of the MEK/ERK Axis Restores Oncogene-Induced Senescence via a MDM2/p21 Axis Oncogene activation induces hyperproliferation, which consequently triggers replication stress and excessive spontaneous DNA damage. This process causes genomic instability and is a key feature of cancer at its earliest stages (Gorgoulis et al., 2005xActivation of the DNA damage checkpoint and genomic instability in human precancerous lesions.
Targeting T cell senescence in the tumor microenvironment for tumor immunotherapy
Understanding the molecular mechanisms involved in creating and sustaining the tumor suppressive microenvironment is critical for the development of novel anti-tumor therapeutic strategies. Regulatory T cells (Treg) are a key player for the tumor immunosuppressive microenvironment. However, the molecular processes and functions of suppressed responder T cells mediated by Treg cells remain largely unknown.
