Polarimetric Inverse Rendering for Label-Efficient Surface Finish Estimation in Robotic Polishing
Submitted: 16 October 2026 You are already at the latest version In-process surface-finish estimation is a prerequisite for closed-loop robotic polishing, yet force- and acoustic-emission sensing is single-point and needs offline recalibration, while learned vision regressors are tied to a fixed optical setup and a single material. On translucent dental ceramics the problem is compounded: sub-surface scattering broadens the specular lobe, so generic regressors over-estimate roughness.
Object Visibility Estimation for Pick-Order Reasoning in Robotic Bin Picking
Submitted: 15 October 2026 You are already at the latest version In warehouse bin picking, a manipulator must decide which object to remove first, because grasping a pinned object often fails or drags neighbouring items out of the bin. Prevailing approaches rely on amodal instance segmentation: the full extent of each partially occluded object is first predicted, and occlusion is inferred from the area ratio between the visible and the completed mask.

Gut microbiota-activated PLCγ2 monocytes drive atrial fibrillation
Abstract Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common sustained arrhythmia, conferring risks of stroke and heart failure. Monocyte activation-associated inflammation is implicated in AF, yet the recruitment of monocytes and their role in atrial remodeling remain unclear. Here we show that monocytes from AF patients upregulate phospholipase C gamma 2 (PLCG2).
Near-infrared-active Nd–BiO 2-x /MIL-101(Fe) with vacancy-induced interfaces for solar water purification
Abstract Engineering vacancy interfaces in semiconductor–metal-organic framework heterostructures provides a promising route to regulate interfacial charge transfer under solar irradiation. Here, we construct a near-infrared-active Nd–BiO2-x/MIL-101(Fe) heterostructure, where ultrathin oxygen-vacancy-rich Nd-doped BiO2-x nanosheets (2-5 nm) are anchored onto porous MIL-101(Fe) through Bi–O = C bonds.

Human Nasal and Bronchial Epithelium in Cystic Fibrosis: Differences in Expression of Airway pH Regulatory Proteins
1 Introduction In cystic fibrosis (CF), airway epithelial cell proteins can serve to regulate the luminal pH of airway surface liquid (ASL) [1-6]. For example, airway epithelial and mucus gland pH is affected by the concentration of luminal bicarbonate ([HCO3-]), which is controlled, at least in part, by HCO3- transport through the cystic fibrosis (CF) transmembrane regulatory protein (CFTR) and carbonic anhydrases [7].

Music aesthetics scoring plays a critical role in applications such as dataset curation, generative model evaluation, and reward modeling for music generation. Recent approaches rely on deep neural networks trained on human-annotated ratings, but these models may exploit spurious correlations rather than capturing perceptually meaningful aesthetics.

Abstract While spatial multiomics offers insights into complex biological systems, its widespread adoption is hindered by technical challenges, specialized requirements and limited accessibility. Here we present NicheTrans, a spatially aware cross-omics translation method and a flexible Transformer-based multimodal framework. Unlike existing single-cell translation methods, NicheTrans incorporates both cellular microenvironment information and multimodal data.
How faith communities are helping close WA’s affordability gap
On the Eastside of Seattle, the $1.5 million median home price has become shorthand for a profound housing crisis. But the affordability challenge does not stop at the city limits — or King County. Throughout Washington, families are being priced out of the communities they serve. Teachers, nurses, first responders and service workers increasingly cannot afford to live near their jobs. Seniors on fixed incomes and single parents are stretched beyond their means. This crisis is not new.
RPA-ssDNA co-phase separation facilitates RAD51 enrichment during homologous recombination
Homologous recombination (HR) is pivotal for the maintenance of genome integrity. During HR, replacing replication protein A (RPA) with the recombinase RAD51 on single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) is crucial in forming the presynaptic complex for homology search. However, how RAD51 identifies legitimate RPA-coated ssDNA involved in HR to prepare for the replacement remains elusive. Here, we develop an innovative approach to generate ssDNA for the single-molecule measurements of this transaction.
A high-dexterity soft neuroprosthetic hand for daily activities
Abstract Robotic prostheses are the primary replacement for upper-limb amputees’ lost hands. Although various neuroprosthetic hands have been developed, featuring both rigid and soft mechanisms, they typically offer grasping-oriented functionality with fewer degrees of freedom (DOFs, ≤6). Herein, we report a dexterous soft neuroprosthetic hand with 11 active DOFs that restores common grasping and fine manipulation, validated by four amputee subjects (aged 38–70 years, male and female).

Unraveling the HGF/MET axis in Mallory-Denk body pathogenesis associated with liver fibrosis through single-cell transcriptomics
Abstract Mallory-Denk bodies (MDBs) are protein aggregates commonly observed in chronic liver diseases, including liver fibrosis. However, the intrahepatic crosstalk driving MDB pathogenesis and fibrosis progression remains poorly understood. Using single-nucleus RNA sequencing (snRNA-seq), we identified significant cellular heterogeneity and a distinct hepatocyte subpopulation, termed MDB-associated hepatocytes (MAHs). MAHs were strongly correlated with hepatocellular carcinoma progression.
