Tractor trailer fuel spill closes I-91 north in Connecticut

WETHERSFIELD, Conn. (WFSB) - A tractor trailer’s saddle tank ruptured on Interstate 91 north between exits 25 and 27, state police said. The two right lanes were closed, according to the state Department of Transportation. No other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported, state police said. The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and fire officials were notified of the spill.

Woodbridge officer saves choking newborn

WOODBRIDGE, Conn. (WFSB) - A Woodbridge police officer saved the life of a five-day-old infant who was choking and experiencing difficulty breathing last month. Woodbridge police say Officer Nicholas Samartino responded to a home during the late evening hours following a report of a newborn in distress. Samartino assessed the situation and began administering back blows, according to police. He then transitioned to suctioning the infant’s airway.

Suspect identified in Hartford homicide after Massachusetts standoff

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WFSB) - Hartford police have identified the suspect in a deadly shooting Wednesday evening who died after a standoff in Massachusetts. Chad Petitpas, 46, of Uncasville, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after barricading himself in a hotel room near 579 Northampton Street in Holyoke, Mass. Route 5 was closed from Reservation Road to the Easthampton line due to the ongoing police investigation.
