After starting as the morning producer, I was promoted to report live from 4:30-9 on weekday mornings about community events, people making a difference, and host "Feel Good Friday". OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Sharon Olson, a lifelong Minne Lusa resident who spent more than two decades working to improve her neighborhood, died this week. She was more than 80 years old. Olson helped launch Minne Lusa House, a community gathering space, and fought to keep the Florence Library open when the city threatened to close it. She also helped restore older homes in the area, working to place them with buyers committed to the neighborhood.

North Omaha mural honoring community icons restored after vandalism

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - A mural at 30th and Spaulding celebrating icons of the North Omaha community has been restored after it was vandalized with spray paint. The artists behind the piece — a husband-and-wife team known as Menace and Resa — traveled more than 1,000 miles from Queens to repair it. The mural features the faces of five figures tied to the neighborhood’s history: Buddy Miles, Bob Gibson, Malcolm X, Bud Crawford and John Goodwin.

Rehab center aims to expand facilities to include family housing, community spaces

(WOWT) - QLI, an Omaha rehabilitation center serving people with brain and spinal cord injuries, has announced a $22 million capital campaign called “Beyond the Promise” to fund two major projects: new community spaces and expanded family housing. The center draws hundreds of patients from across the country each year. Among them is Onnika Frye, who was injured in a horse-related accident while working on a ranch in Nevada.
