We propose what we believe to be a novel frequency-modulated continuous-wave distributed acoustic sensing (FMCW-DAS) system utilizing the sub-chirp-multiplexed spectral matching (SCM-SM) method. Multiplexing N sub-chirp probe signals enhances the theoretical maximum measurable frequency N-fold beyond the conventional single-shot limit.
High spatial resolution distributed transverse-load sensing based on polarization-sensitive optical frequency domain reflectometry
We proposed and demonstrated a high spatial resolution distributed transverse-load (TL) sensor based on polarization-sensitive optical frequency domain reflectometry (P-OFDR) using a polarization-maintaining photonic crystal fiber (PM-PCF). The fiber exhibits high TL sensitivity because of the asymmetric air hole structure in its cladding, which changes the local birefringence through the photoelastic effect of the fiber.
Targeting VISTA as a novel immunotherapy for skin cancer
Abstract While immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) targeting PD-1 and CTLA-4 has revolutionized the treatment of skin cancers, a significant proportion of patients with advanced melanoma and cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) exhibit primary or acquired resistance. Identifying non-redundant inhibitory pathways is crucial for the next generation of immunotherapy. As a unique checkpoint, VISTA (PD-1H) maintains immune tolerance through a distinct pH-sensitive mechanism.
The immunometabolic tipping point: forecasting the systemic shift from psoriasis to psoriatic arthritis
Abstract Psoriasis (PsO) is a chronic immune-mediated inflammatory disease that progresses to psoriatic arthritis (PsA) in up to 30% of patients. The transition from localized cutaneous inflammation to systemic articular involvement represents a critical window for early intervention; however, accurately predicting which patients will develop PsA remains a significant clinical challenge. Growing evidence highlights immunometabolic dysregulation as a central driver of this systemic shift.
An eight-variable risk model for short- and long-term mortality in hospitalized heart failure
Abstract Heart failure (HF) is a leading cause of hospitalization and death worldwide, yet most prognostic models target long-term outcomes and are not optimized for acute-phase risk stratification. This study developed and externally validated an 8-variable Cox model for predicting 28-day and 1-year all-cause mortality in hospitalized HF patients, following the TRIPOD statement.
Supervisory feedback on academic writing in higher education a narrative review of theory, methodology, and context
Abstract Supervisory feedback is critical for developing research writing competence in higher education, yet existing reviews often lack theoretical integration, methodological transparency, or attention to non‑Anglophone scholarship. This narrative review synthesises 35 empirical studies (2010–2023) from Web of Science (English) and CNKI (Chinese) databases, following SANRA guidelines.

Early life sugar rationing and ageing related diseases, biological ageing and mortality
Abstract Early-life nutrition may influence lifelong ageing, yet human evidence is scarce. Using Britain’s postwar sugar rationing as a natural experiment, we examine its long-term effects in 64,809 United Kingdom Biobank participants.
PHKA2-AS1 promotes leukemic proliferation and is associated with poor prognosis in acute myeloid leukemia
Abstract Acute myeloid leukemia remains a highly aggressive hematological malignancy with poor clinical outcomes. Long non-coding RNAs are increasingly recognized as regulators of leukemia biology, but the role of PHKA2-AS1 in AML remains unclear. MCOLN1-related lysosome–mitochondria stress and zinc homeostasis have been implicated in cancer cell fate; however, whether AML-associated lncRNAs are transcriptionally associated with this axis has not been fully explored.
Authigenic pyrite-magnetic susceptibility relationships influenced by methane seepage (Site U1445, Bay of Bengal)
Abstract The sulfate-methane transition zone (SMTZ) is a pivotal biogeochemical site within marine sediment columns where anaerobic oxidation of methane (AOM) facilitates the reductive dissolution of Fe-(oxyhydr)oxides and forms iron sulfide minerals (ultimately preserved as pyrite) in marine sediments. However, the long-term relationship between pyrite accumulation, sulfur isotope signatures, and magnetic susceptibility (MS) variations in methane-seepage environments remains poorly understood.

The CD73-adenosine axis in melanoma: from multidimensional regulation to precision immunotherapy
Abstract The therapeutic landscape of advanced melanoma has been transformed by immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs); however, primary and acquired resistance remain formidable challenges for a substantial subset of patients. Emerging evidence identifies the CD73-adenosine axis as a critical “metabolic immune checkpoint” that orchestrates an immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME).
Bridging B-cell autoimmunity and oncology: the PD-1/PD-L1 paradox in systemic lupus erythematosus
Abstract Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) remains one of the most challenging autoimmune diseases due to its complex pathogenesis involving the breakdown of B cell tolerance. While the PD-1/PD-L1 axis is traditionally viewed as a universal inhibitory checkpoint, its role in SLE is uniquely nuanced.
Multi-omics integration predicts the incidence of 17 diseases in the UK Biobank
|
Abstract Multi-omics technologies, such as metabolomics and proteomics, offer deep molecular perspectives that could enhance risk prediction, but large-scale studies integrating both are scarce. Here we show the predictive values of these two omics across 17 incident diseases in 23,776 UK Biobank participants with complete baseline for 159 NMR-based metabolites and 2,923 Olink affinity-based proteins.

Disentangling the drivers and host-mediated global spread of H7 influenza A virus
Abstract Avian influenza H7 viruses pose a significant zoonotic and pandemic threat, yet their evolutionary dynamics, spatial transmission patterns, and host-specific roles remain underexplored. This study integrates phylodynamic and phylogeographic analyses to map global H7 dissemination, quantify host-specific contributions, and identify key ecological and anthropogenic drivers. Epidemiological data show key epidemic waves in Asia during 2013-2014 and 2016-2017, and in Africa in 2023.
Advancing precision immuno-oncology in melanoma: the synergistic convergence of personalized neoantigen vaccines and multi-omics biomarker profiling
Abstract Cutaneous melanoma represents a paradigm of immunological complexity, where multifactorial primary and acquired resistance often undermine the clinical efficacy of conventional immune checkpoint blockades and targeted therapies. This review provides a comprehensive analysis of the strategic shift toward precision immuno-oncology, focusing on the mechanistic synergy between personalized neoantigen-directed vaccines and integrated multi-omics profiling.
Gas hydrate reservoir quality enhanced by framboidal pyrite formation
Abstract Gas hydrate enrichment mechanisms and reservoir characteristics are crucial for understanding their resource potential and role in the global carbon cycle. Traditional models emphasize coarse-grained sediments as primary hosts for hydrates, but recent studies show significant accumulations also occur in fine-grained systems. However, the influence of authigenic minerals, particularly porous framboidal pyrite, on reservoir properties in such settings remains poorly understood.

TaCNGC-2A suppresses seed dormancy and activates pre-harvest sprouting through modulating calcium and hormonal signaling pathways
Abstract Weak seed dormancy (SD) is prone to pre-harvest sprouting (PHS), which reduces cereal yield and quality. Here, through map-based analysis, we identify TaCNGC-2A, encoding a cyclic nucleotide-gated channel protein, as a negative regulator of wheat SD. Knocking out of TaCNGC-2A enhances SD and PHS resistance, with no yield penalty. Two transcription factors, TaMYB-5B and TaMYB-5D, directly bind to the T/A mutation site of TaCNGC-2A promoter to synergistically repress its expression.
A multi-way SMILES-based hypergraph inference network for metabolic model reconstruction - Communications Biology
Abstract Genome-scale metabolic models (GEMs) are indispensable tools for probing cellular metabolism, enabling predictions of metabolic fluxes, guiding strain optimization, and advancing biomedical research. However, their predictive capacity is often compromised by incomplete reaction networks, stemming from gaps in biochemical knowledge, annotation inaccuracies, and insufficient experimental validations.
Unveiling ZNF124 as a novel determinant in neurodegeneration: orchestration of photoreceptor homeostasis through MSX2 transcriptional regulation - Cell Death & Disease
Abstract Retinitis pigmentosa (RP), affecting more than 20 million people worldwide, refers to a group of inherited retinal dystrophies characterized by progressive photoreceptor degeneration and vision loss. However, the underlying genetic causes of substantial RP cases remain unidentified. In this report, we identified a novel homozygous splicing variant, c.219-1delG, which introduced skipping of exon 4 of the ZNF124 gene in a large RP pedigree by whole-exome sequencing analysis.

Adherence to mask-wearing and its impact on the incidence and deaths of viral respiratory infectious diseases: a systematic review, meta-analysis and modelling study
Mask-wearing could effectively prevent and control viral infections during pandemics/epidemics of viral respiratory infectious diseases (VRIDs). Numerous epidemiological studies have focused on adherence to mask-wearing, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, there remains a scarcity of comprehensive studies that quantitatively evaluate and compare adherence to mask-wearing among different populations, regions and time periods from a global perspective.
