Johnson: Protecting children remains a top priority
Reports of online exploitation of minors continue to rise at an alarming rate. We are seeing everything from the direct solicitation of children to organized groups producing and sharing child sexual abuse material. Offenders are using just about every platform available on the internet to commit these crimes. Parents should assume that any app their child uses has the potential to expose them to risk. There is no single profile for a predator.

The Mountain Mystic
Since succeeding her dearly departed husband, Bill, to become Jasper County’s first female sheriff, Mary Beth Cain has closed more cases than any three of her male predecessors combined. But nobody bats a thousand in the cop game. Nobody. And, ovaries aside, Mary Beth knows she’s no different. There’d been a handful of unsolveds during her tenure, victims and families denied their justice, and each and every one of them gnaws at her soul.

The Moonshine Messiah by Russell Johnson - Reviewed by Michelle Hogmire
Must read 🏆 A West Virginian sheriff must choose between protecting her rowdy family and upholding the law in this engrossing Appalachian crime novel. Admittedly, as someone born and raised in West Virginia, I get my hackles up when I hear a book is set in the Mountain State. I'm so used to people who aren't from Appalachia, writing narratives ridden with stereotypes and misconceptions about my home.
Rising Spirits: From Sinful to Gluten-free
I have never been a day drinker: rarely a glass of wine at lunch and never a morning Bloody Mary. But here I am, under the bright sun, with a glass of vodka in my hand. In Minnesota, where I grew up, one was not only judged by their religion but the severity of their Lutheranism. Nobody would dare enjoy an alcoholic beverage on the front porch. What would the neighbors think?
JERUSALEM FOR THE WEIRD
MT SHASTA, CALIFORNIA Jesus Goes to Heaven — I Am Come Pageant, Mt Shasta, California. Itis Sunday morning in Mt. Shasta City, California. The shops offering Namibian Crystals, which believers believe, can be combined with copper tubing to serve as multi-dimensional portals to inside Mt. Shasta, are not open yet, nor are the bookstores with their special sections featuring books about extraterrestrials and/or refugees from a lost continent living within the mountain, which towers above.
Deep Thinking: I Want to be an Octopus
Alone today, moving about the house following pools of sunlight, I have been thinking about what, if I had my wish, I would like to be. And, I have come to a conclusion. I would wish to become…. an octopus. Daft, you say, but listen up. We are not all that different. The octopus and I have the same origin, a worm some 600 million years ago. The octopus, like me, has two eyes, loves to eat shellfish and can’t always synchronize its arms with its brain, which makes it, like me, a horrible dancer.
Fish Schtick - Gone Astray Podcast
I am not Ahab. No huge aquatic creature has chomped off my leg. I am not Hemingway or sad Santiago. I have never battled a giant marlin. My quest for a trophy fish has never been tragic or heroic. But, I have always dreamed of landing a whopper.
Russell Jamie Johnson is Honest and Relatable on His New Single “First and Canal” [Premiere]
Article Views: 3 Is there anything this dude can’t do? We’re talking about Russell Jamie Johnson, who’s returned with his second single of the year, “First and Canal.” The mid-tempo, gentle tone of the song competently helps situate Johnson as a songwriter’s songwriter, a man who loves nothing more than to sit there with a pen and a pad in hand, and an acoustic guitar on his lap.
University of Bath paleontologist loses 1 million pound Leverhulme grant over bullying complaints

Organizational power embodied in hand and finger touchlines
Abstract Purpose The purpose of this paper is to develop a nuanced interpretative frame that can help global managers with recommendations to avoid misapplied power with group and organizational situations. Design/methodology/approach Embodied metaphor is applied in analysis of the theory-praxis nexus to reconceive the bases, processes and resources associated with group and organizational power.
Washington Wizards fall to San Antonio Spurs in return from COVID-19 layoff
SAN ANTONIO — Washington struggled offensively and suffered some communication breakdowns defensively in crucial situations, but Wizards coach Scott Brooks could forgive those lapses. After being unable to play for two weeks, Brooks and the Wizards were simply happy to be back on the court. Patty Mills scored 21 points, Lonnie Walker IV added 16 and the San Antonio Spurs used their depth to beat Washington 121-101 on Sunday night in the Wizards’ first game since Jan. 11.
IRS Confirms Major Disaster Leave-Sharing Program Use for COVID-19 Pandemic | JD Supra
On August 3, 2020, the IRS posted a short set of frequently asked questions for leave-sharing programs which confirm that major disaster leave-sharing programs under IRS Notice 2006-59 can be used for employees who have been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Chicken Bones and UFOs
Last night we had chicken for dinner. After dinner I stuffed the remaining bones and gristle into a plastic bag and proceeded to the trash can outside of our kitchen. As I stepped outside, I casually glanced at the sky. No moon, almost pitch dark. But I spotted something very strange, a pair of dim objects in the heavens followed by wispy tails. There were sparkling dots inside of them.
Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens - A Video Vision of Paradise
If ever I have seen a vision of paradise, this is it. If I were immortal, this is where I would wish to wander for eternity. The Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens spreads out over 47 acres between the California coastal villages of Mendocino and Ft. Bragg. Its climate of alternate sun and fog makes it a happy home for flora from all over the world: hillsides of heather, roses, dahlias, poppies and, in the spring, thousands of camellias and rhododendrons.
Pussycat Popups, the ultimate get rich quick scheme - Gone Astray Podcast
I’ll have to admit. I was never much of a businessman. In fact, I could probably have been considered by some “a loser.” My dreams of a golden tower with my name on it had pretty much faded. But then I came up with an idea that I thought, humbly, was brilliant. I thank my domestic shorthaired cat I appropriately named Warren Buffet.
IRS Approves Additional Leave-Based Donation Programs for COVID-19 Relief | JD Supra
We previously posted about two leave-sharing programs available to employers during the COVID-19 pandemic: major disaster leave-sharing programs and medical emergency leave-sharing programs. These leave-sharing programs may allow employees to donate paid leave to co-workers affected by COVID-19. When properly structured under Internal Revenue Service (“IRS”) guidance, the donated leave is excluded from the gross income of the donor employee.

The Ultimate Vacation: Places To Go AFTER YOU DIE
OK, death. A difficult subject. I’ve never had a bucket list. I got over the notion of places I MUST visit before I become compost long ago. But, the afterwhatever is a different story. Subscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | Stitcher | TuneIn | iHeart Radio | Spotify | Google Podcasts | I know I don’t want to go to heaven. Its depictions make it look like an overproduced operetta. Being greeted by 72 virgins seems really problematic. I don’t want to come back as a bucket-kicking cow.

Wither the Handshake: Better Ways to Greet in the Age of the Virus
Why is shaking hands, especially now when a virus is spreading worldwide, still the accepted international greeting? Every winter, for about 30 years, I attended conferences and shook hundreds of hands. Every year, I got sick, although sometimes probably from air travel. There are so many better was to offer a greeting than the handshake, which dates back to the 5th century BCE Greece as proof that neither party was carrying a knife.

Mourners attend a funeral ceremony for Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani and his comrades, who were killed in Iraq in a U.S. drone strike on Friday, at the Enqelab-e-Eslami (Islamic Revolution) square in Tehran, Iran, Monday, Jan. 6, 2020. The processions mark the first time Iran honored a single man with a multi-city ceremony. Not even Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, who founded the Islamic Republic, received such a processional with his death in 1989.
Rae Jean Proeschold-Bell on Four Steps Clergy Can Take to Avoid Burnout
Above-average rates of depression have been found in clergy. Photo courtesy of Pixabay/Creative Commons Anyone familiar with the schedule kept by the Rev. Howard-John Wesley, pastor of Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia, was not likely surprised by the news that he is stepping away to take a much-deserved sabbatical. Rev. Wesley was known to be on call to answer his parishioners’ needs 24 hours a day.
You Shouldn’t Volunteer to Help Your Coworkers
Russell Johnson of Michigan State University and his coresearchers asked managers to track the help they gave colleagues over 10 days and how recipients responded. The team found that when people lent a hand without being asked, they were less likely to be shown gratitude than when they helped upon request. Study participants also felt less sociable and engaged at work a day after they’d given proactive assistance. The conclusion: You shouldn’t volunteer to help your coworkers.
Why Imposterism Can Be a Good Thing for Managers
The New York Times once ran a great piece about managers and professionals who suffer from feelings of fraudulence or inadequacy at work. Imposter syndrome (also known as imposter phenomenon, imposterism and “neurotic imposture”) can be a good thing for managers, said the author. Occasionally feeling like a fraud ensures managers don’t get too egotistical: it helps them define their limits and ensures they seek guidance when they are out of their depth. It also shows their humility.

Are you ready for a promotion? How can you bring it up to your boss? Use these tips to make a case for why you deserve a promotion.
When You Start a New Job, Pay Attention to These 5 Aspects of Company Culture
When you join an organization, you have a short window of time to adapt to its culture. It’s the old 90-day rule. And we know too many talented individuals who have stumbled in their new company because they failed to read the cultural tea leaves. This happens because most organizations don’t explain the cultural rules to newcomers, and new hires are so focused on the job and the new boss that they overlook the rules’ profound influence.
When Your Boss Has an Angry Outburst, What Do They Do Next?
Many of us have had a bad workplace interaction with a boss — for example, being yelled at or sworn at in front of others, receiving no credit for work that required serious effort or extra hours, or being humiliated for a past mistake. At best, such experiences can be frustrating and demotivating; at worst, they can lead to reduced productivity or even to someone deciding to quit. But have you thought about how your boss might have felt after mistreating you?
When Your Boss Has an Angry Outburst, What Do They Do Next?
Many of us have had a bad interaction with a boss — for example, being yelled at or sworn at in front of others, not receiving credit for work, or being humiliated for a mistake. But what happens after this mistreatment? Researchers find that some leaders feel bad and try to make amends.
Uncivil behaviour in the workplace causes mental fatigue and is contagious
It is a common maxim that you should treat others the way you personally would want to be treated. This sentiment spills into the work environment when interacting with colleagues, in that we often are encouraged to treat others at work with respect and dignity. Sometimes, this notion is conveyed directly to employees during training programs, on company retreats, or in the actual mantras that are espoused as part of an organisation’s mission statement or core values.
Research: Using a Smartphone After 9 pm Leaves Workers Disengaged
Smartphones are enormously valuable for helping people to fit work activity into times and places outside of the office. Now that workers are able to access email and websites at any time from almost any location, they can be responsive to professional demands in ways unimaginable just a few decades ago. Customer-centric organizations can remain attentive to customers’ needs around the clock. Time-critical events can be addressed quickly.

For 2016, Best in the Desert, and by that we mean Casey Folks, decided to do a few things differently and split the race into two heats.
Titans WRs Justin Hunter and Kendall Wright react to Mariota pick
The Tennessee Titans held the second overall pick in the NFL Draft this year, and two of their top receivers were caught on video when the Titans selection was announced. That selection was quarterback Marcus Mariota, and potentially the player that will be throwing them the ball for the foreseeable future. So how did they react? Were they excited at the chance to catch balls from Mariota? On the right is Kendall Hunter and on the left is Justin Hunter.
True Blood #10 Review
Admittedly I am not a big fan of comic book adaptations of movies, TV shows or videos games. Neither have I been a big advocate or follower of vampire pop-culture, with that said there have been a few that have popped up on my radar that I have enjoyed quite a bit as of late. But is this comic book one of the better ones? Read on to find out.
