MAVEN: an automated multimodal framework for predicting VETC and early recurrence in HCC
Abstract Accurate identification of aggressive tumor phenotypes remains a major challenge in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Here, we developed and validated MAVEN (Multimodal Automated VETC Estimation Network), a fully automated multimodal deep learning system integrating magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), whole-slide histopathology images (WSIs), and clinical variables for predicting vessels encapsulating tumor clusters (VETC) and early recurrence risk.
Does the National E-Commerce Demonstration City Program Enhance Urban Green Total Factor Productivity?: Evidence from a Quasi-Natural Experiment in China
The National E-Commerce Demonstration City (NEDC) program provides a quasi-natural experiment for assessing whether e-commerce-oriented place-based policies improve urban green productivity. Using a balanced panel of 298 Chinese cities from 2007 to 2023, this study measures green total factor productivity (GTFP) with a global frontier SBM-EFF-ML index and exploits the program’s staggered rollout in a difference-in-differences framework.
A non-invasive diagnostic model for early detection of gastric and colorectal cancers using serum glycopeptide profiling and machine learning
Abstract Gastrointestinal cancers are leading causes of cancer-related mortality worldwide, with early detection significantly improving survival outcomes. However, current diagnostic methods are either invasive or lack sufficient sensitivity for early-stage disease. This study aimed to develop a non-invasive diagnostic model for gastric and colorectal cancers (the two most prevalent subtypes of gastrointestinal cancers) using serum glycopeptide profiling and machine learning.
Therapeutic potential of gut microbiota metabolites against Klebsiella pneumoniae pneumonia: a multiomics analysis integrating network pharmacology, molecular docking, and dynamics simulations
Abstract Although gut microbiota metabolites (GMMs) show therapeutic activity against Klebsiella pneumoniae pneumonia (KPP), their underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Therefore, identifying biomarkers associated with the therapeutic effects of GMM on KPP is crucial. Targets associated with gut microbiota (GM), GMM, and KPP were collected from several databases.
ProSci-246 with dietary guidance alters gut microbiota and metabolism in childhood obesity: a randomized trial
Abstract Childhood obesity remains a pressing global health challenge with few effective therapeutic strategies. This study combined a cross-sectional analysis of 99 children (49 obese, 50 healthy) with a 3-month, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in 95 children with obesity to investigate the role of gut microbiota in pediatric obesity and evaluate Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis ProSci-246 as a microbiota-targeted intervention.

RanBP2 promotes ferroptosis resistance and compromises therapeutic response by stabilizing SLC7A1 through LRSAM1 SUMOylation and ubiquitination in lung adenocarcinoma
Abstract SUMOylation is characterized as a ubiquitin-like post-translational modification that exhibits mechanistic similarities with ubiquitination. Importantly, it modulates the ubiquitination levels of some target proteins, thereby influencing protein stability. Dysregulation of this modification pathway plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis and progression of various tumors.

Three-dimensional facial phenotyping for difficult facemask ventilation: from association to clinical utility
We read with interest the prospective study by Wünsch et al. evaluating pre-operative three-dimensional facial scanning for prediction of difficult facemask ventilation [1]. Converting facial morphology into interpretable Faces Learned with an Articulated Model and Expressions (FLAME) coefficients is innovative, and the reported optimism-corrected area under the receiver operator curve (AUROC) of 0.74 for facial features alone is encouraging.

Illness acceptance and early self-management in older adults with prediabetes: the mediating role of depression
Abstract Background: Early self-management is essential for preventing the progression from prediabetes to diabetes, particularly among older adults who often experience difficulties maintaining stable health behaviors during the early adaptation stage. Illness acceptance represents an important cognitive response to disease-related stress, while depression reflects a common emotional reaction during early disease awareness.

Low expression of ONECUT2 governs the POU6F2-beta-catenin axis to modulate cancer stemness and drives the CCL28-dependent pathway for macrophage polarization in breast cancer
Abstract Cancer stem cells (CSC) and the immunosuppressive microenvironments are key drivers of breast cancer (BC) progression and drug resistance. However, the molecular mechanisms by which One Cut Homeobox 2 (ONECUT2) governs CSC and the tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) remain largely unknown. Given the critical knowledge gap, we sought to investigate ONECUT2’s regulatory impact on CSC properties and TIME profiles using BC cell lines, animal models, and clinical specimens.
A Temperature-Responsive Expandable Gel Lost Circulation Material for Oil Drilling toward Deep Strata Click to copy article link Article link copied!
Abstract Click to copy section linkSection link copied! Lost circulation is a significant and complex issue in drilling operations, often prolonging the drilling cycle, increasing costs, and potentially leading to borehole abandonment. In this paper, we developed a temperature-responsive expandable gel polymer, PDNN, to prevent lost circulation in deep formations at temperatures exceeding 150 °C.
Dose optimization of remimazolam as an adjunct to propofol for gastroscopy sedation: a randomized double-blind trial
Abstract Introduction: Propofol-based sedation for gastroscopy is effective but may cause dose-dependent cardiorespiratory depression; therefore, optimizing adjunct strategies to reduce propofol exposure is clinically important. Methods: We conducted a prospective, single-center, randomized, double-blind, dose-response trial to evaluate the propofol-sparing effect of remimazolam during procedural sedation for gastroscopy.

Synergizing hypomethylating agents with off-the-shelf CD70-targeted chimeric antigen receptor-engineered natural killer T cells for the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia
Abstract Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is an aggressive hematologic malignancy characterized by the uncontrolled expansion of undifferentiated myeloid precursors in the bone marrow. Hypomethylating agents (HMAs) such as azacitidine and decitabine can reverse abnormal DNA methylation, promote leukemic cell differentiation, and enhance immune recognition, yet relapse and therapeutic resistance remain major challenges.

David Baltimore (1938–2025) - Nature Biotechnology
In 1965, he launched his independent research laboratory at the Salk Institute, where his early work on animal viruses led to the discovery of the RNA-dependent DNA polymerase, or reverse transcriptase — a finding that reshaped molecular biology by overturning the prevailing ‘central dogma’ that genetic information flows only from DNA to RNA to protein1.
