HARWINTON, Conn. (WFSB) - Cleanup from Saturday night’s storms is expected to last several days in Harwinton, where about 85% of the town remains without power. Harwinton First Selectman Michael Criss declared a local state of emergency and disaster in the town. Lead Mine Brook Road was among the hardest-hit areas. The road remains closed due to multiple damage sites along its length, including snapped power poles, downed trees, and wires across the road.

Eversource: About a third of Plainville without power after Fourth of July storms

PLAINVILLE, Conn. (WFSB) - Storms moved through the Plainville area on the Fourth of July, snapping trees, knocking down street lights and sparking at least one fire after a tree fell on power lines. Fire burns outside resident’s home On Shuttle Meadow Road, a tree came down on wires and started a fire. Neighbors placed cones to block traffic from the area before first responders arrived. Nathan Sirois, a Plainville resident, said he called 9-1-1 multiple times and helped set out the cones.

Rocky Neck State Park fills up as beachgoers flock to shore amid heat wave

NIANTIC, Conn. (WFSB) - Rocky Neck State Park’s parking lot filled up early Friday, forcing beachgoers to park along Route 156 and walk to the shore during a heat wave on holiday weekend. Isiah White, of Bristol, said an officer on scene confirmed the lot was closed. “I asked one of the officers, are we able to park in there? He said no it’s full,” White said. White, who is 67, felt the conditions on the walk in. “I’m 67 this year, this heat is beating!” he said.
