NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — The school-zone speed cameras in North Kingstown were busy catching speeding violations over the last several weeks of the school year. Tuesday marked the first scheduled court date for those with traffic citations from the cameras. In an email Tuesday, North Kingstown Police Captain John MacCoy Jr. told 12 News that the department issued 1,729 violations between May 13-26. The cameras are only active from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. on days when school is in session.
Feds: Mount Hope Bridge inspection report wasn’t sensitive after all
BRISTOL, R.I. (WPRI) — For more than a decade, the R.I. Turnpike and Bridge Authority has stamped its bridge inspection reports with a federal designation meant to keep sensitive information from the public. Now, after a nine-month legal battle with the Town of Bristol, federal officials say one of those reports wasn’t sensitive at all. The case raises questions about whether RITBA improperly shielded a routine inspection report of the aging Mount Hope Bridge.

NEW YORK (AP) — Infections from the diarrhea-causing parasite cyclospora are surging, with state-level data suggesting that 2026 is already the nation’s worst year for reported cases. More than 30 states have reported infections this year, and current data from them shows the number of infections surpassing the record U.S. mark of about 4,700 set in 2019. The illness is not usually life threatening and is typically treated with antibiotics.
Doctors hope to cut back on unnecessary C-sections
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Having a caesarean section, more commonly known to as a C-section, is one of the most common operations nationwide. Though it’s generally considered safe, several hospitals across the country, including in Rhode Island, are working to decrease the number of C-sections performed each year. This comes three years after the Rhode Island Department of Health reported that the Ocean State had one of the highest C-section rates in the country.
RI man raising money to get wife life-saving service dog
BURRILLVILLE, R.I. (WPRI) — A Burrillville man is asking for donations so he can adopt a diabetic alert service dog for his wife, which he believes could save her life. Cody Davis told 12 News he’s been by his wife Michelle’s side for nearly 18 years. Throughout that time, he’s watched her live with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type 1, or MEN1, which is a rare inherited disorder that causes tumors to form in hormone-producing glands.
