70 New Restaurants That Opened in Calgary in 2017
This year, there was no shortage of new restaurants, cafes, bakeries and bars to check out in Calgary. At least 70 new eateries opened across the city in 2017, offering their takes on barbecue, poke, Italian cuisine, ice cream and much more. While most of these are brand new restaurants, several local favourites were also able to expand their reach by opening a second or third location this year. Either way, there's something delicious for everyone on this list.
Fire up the grill for cheesy sausages, beer-glazed chicken & Korean short ribs
Chef and host of "Man, Fire, Food," Roger Mooking stops by the TODAY kitchen to prepare a few of his go-to grilling recipes. He makes cheese stuffed sausages, beer glazed chicken thighs and Korean-style marinated short ribs. I'm always looking for simple ways to add new life to classic comfort foods. Splitting the sausage and adding bubbling cheese adds so much more texture and flavor to this ballpark staple.
I Am Tired Of Fearing For My Life
I remember getting on the bus on my way to school and thinking, "I don't want to sit next to that lady" because she will likely clutch her purse and make me feel like I did something to deserve feeling like I was a criminal. I was seasoned by the purse clutching reaction, because it happened so often, that my 13 year-old self didn't realized the impact of that circumstance on my psyche until many years later when I was finally able to process the layers at play.
Throw a Southern-style BBQ with Tennessee pulled pork and Texas beef ribs
For the authentic Tennessee pulled pork sandwich experience, the dish is just the bun, meat and sauce. If you are looking for a little extra, then garnish with pickles, coleslaw, herbs and/or potato chips. Enjoy. Preheat one side of a grill to 300°F, you will be cooking the pork shoulder over indirect heat so only half of the grill is needed. Season the pork all over with the salt and pepper and place on the grill over indirect heat (or "cold" side of the grill). Cover the grill and cook for 2 hours.
Your kids will love these homemade chicken tenders with sweet and sour sauce
Preheat deep frying oil to 325 F and hold at that temperature. Make sure to never fill your cooking pot to more than half its available volume with oil. Remove the tenderloins from the breast and set on a baking tray. Cut each breast into 4 long strips and place on tray with tenderloins. After you are done, you will have 20 chicken strips total. Sprinkle chicken strips evenly with black pepper and garlic powder, mix well so that they are evenly coated.
