This one’s on top and that one’s on top and on and on it spins…We’re not going to stop the wheel. New US Swim Star Maya DiRado Starts with Silver, and Retirement Is Just Ahead
The USA’s Maya DiRado swam her heart out Saturday night, going faster than ever before in the grueling 400-meter individual medley. But even though DiRado swam the race of her life, she was nowhere near the winner, Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu, who absolutely obliterated the world record. All of which was perfectly fine with DiRado, who proved it’s possible to wear a gold-medal smile even when the color of one’s medal is silver. DiRado beamed when interviewed poolside on NBC afterward.

The Top 10 Quotes you HAVEN'T seen from Day 7 Finals (Video)
Maya DiRado took the first final of the night with a swift 2:06.90 that put her well ahead of the rest of the field as she won her third event of these Olympic trials. DiRado took the lead at the 100-meter mark and never looked back, holding her consistency into the wall as she touched in for gold at 2:06.90. The race for second behind her was between Amy Bilquist, Missy Franklin, and Lisa Bratton for the majority of the race.
2016 U.S. Olympic Swimming Team Complete Roster
USA Swimming’s first priority was first place finishers in individual events and top four finishers in the 100 and 200 free. The second priority was taking second place finishers in events that are not the 100 or 200 free. Then came those who finished fifth or sixth in the 100 and 200 free relays and did not fulfill the first two priorities (AKA winning an event or placing second).
