Ex-Buffalo Sabres captain Kyle Okposo's thank-you letter to city, franchise
Editor's note: As you probably know, Kyle Okposo spent eight years with the Buffalo Sabres before he was traded to the Florida Panthers in March. He won the Stanley Cup with Florida, helping the team defeat Edmonton in seven games to lift the trophy for the first time in his 17-year NHL career. After some time off, however, the former captain wanted to thank the city of Buffalo and Sabres fans for their eight years of support. Here is his open letter: Dear Buffalo, What a journey we had together.
Grading the Sabres' 2023-24 Trade Deadline Acquisitions Original
It was a fairly tame trade deadline this season overall, and Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams followed suit. Only making a handful of deals, he brought in a couple of draft picks, a minor league defender, and a top-end young defender to round out their defensive core. With most of the teams around them buying key assets, the Sabres made moves to improve now and later, which is exactly how they should be looking to improve.

You should see our effort every single night.

Accidental tweet from Kyle Okposo's Twitter may just be the tweet of the year
BarDown Staff Kyle Okposo , (Photo by Harry How/Getty Images) Twitter is a dangerous place sometimes. Receipts are kept, arguments are had, in very extreme cases, jobs are lost… Most of the time, though, it’s an informative place, a helpful place, and a downright entertaining place. On Thursday, we were treated to a hilarious Twitter moment thanks to the account of Kyle Okposo. Seemingly unbeknownst to Okposo, a tweet was sent from his account that was nothing short of complete and total gibberish.

From The Locker Room: Sabres-Canucks
Robin Lehner, Kyle Okposo and Dan Bylsma didn't hold back after the Sabres' 4-2 loss to Vancouver on Sunday."We didn't play good today at all. We made two plays, we scored two goals. That's about it. It's not even disappointing anymore...starting to get angry. This is all talk. We gotta look ourselves in the mirror here.""I think it's disrespectful when we have a gameplan and we're going through things. The last few days we've just been going through how to play our 2nd period.
From The Locker Room: Sabres-Predators
Check out postgame quotes from Jack Eichel, Robin Lehner, Kyle Okposo and Dan Bylsma following the Sabres' 5-4 OT win in Nashville."We stuck with it for 60, and that's kind of been the motto of this team. We don't think that we're ever out of games. You can see it in the last few that we've played. We've battled back and been able to squeeze out two points. At the end of the day, that's what matters.""I think they backed off a bit, just giving me a little bit of space.
Sabres' Eichel Is Getting Better With Every Game
-- Jack Eichel has played nine games since returning from a high ankle sprain. Eichel has eight points and the team is 5-2-2 which is a point percentage of .667.I thought Eichel skated as well as I’ve ever seen him skate the past few games. When he first got back the first few games were almost like a preseason. He said he’s getting a good awareness, “In my hands, in your feel for the game, just your understanding of plays.”"I’m just feeling a little more comfortable lately with my ankle.
Sabres' O'Reilly Is In For Opening Night. Kulikov Out
-- Dan Bylsma gave a brief update on Jack Eichel after the morning skate. He said Eichel has a moderate high ankle sprain and will be out weeks and not days.Ryan O’Reilly is feeling well enough to play while Dmitry Kulikov and Kyle Okposo are still out due to injury. Bylsma said there’s a chance Okposo could play on the weekend.Very little has been said about Evander Kane and his status with the team after being arrested this summer for allegedly putting his hand around a woman’s neck.
Sabres' O'Reilly Is Back And Ready
-- Ryan O’Reilly didn’t skate on Monday, but he finished up his physical and will play Wednesday’s Preseason game.Dan Bylsma said of course O’Reilly wanted to be on the ice, but after seven games with Team Canada, rest was more important. O’Reilly said, “I feel good, I think it’s just getting a little rest after the tournament, but I feel good and excited to be back here with the boys.”Now that O’Reilly’s back everybody is at least here or on the ice.
Thanks for the Memories, Long Island | By Kyle Okposo
I’ll never forget my first day as a professional hockey player. I had just landed at JFK airport in New York and there was a driver waiting for me at baggage claim. It was just like the movies. He had on the suit and cap, and he was holding up a sign that said, OKPOSO. I kind of did a double take. It was January 2008, and I was on my way to Bridgeport, Conn., to play for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL.
