Grass carp reovirus-II NS38 mediates immune evasion by rescuing VP41 from ISG15-mediated degradation
Abstract Grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) hemorrhagic disease, mainly caused by type II grass carp reovirus (GCRV-II), poses a major threat to grass carp aquaculture. Although interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs) are central to host antiviral defense, the ISGs that restrict GCRV-II infection and the mechanisms by which the virus counteracts them remain poorly understood. Here, we identify nine ISGs induced by GCRV-II infection, seven of which suppress viral replication.

Case Report: A rare AGXT pathogenic variant associated with young-adult-onset end-stage kidney disease
Abstract Primary hyperoxaluria type 1 (PH1) is a rare autosomal recessive metabolic disorder caused by pathogenic variants in AGXT, leading to hepatic oxalate overproduction, recurrent nephrolithiasis, nephrocalcinosis, progressive kidney dysfunction, and, in advanced stages, systemic oxalosis. Here, we report a family in which two brothers developed recurrent nephrolithiasis and progressed to end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) in young adulthood.
Chronic stress drives oligoasthenozoospermia via gut microbiota-vitamin- Sting1 / Slc9c2 axis
Abstract Male infertility is linked to chronic psychological stress, however, the mechanisms underlying chronic stress-induced oligoasthenozoospermia (OAZS) remain incompletely elucidated. Here, we establish a chronic forced swim stress (CFSS) rat model and identify a gut microbiota-testis/epididymis axis as the mediator. CFSS activates the HPA axis, leading to elevated corticosterone levels.
Mining of natural diversity enables efficient and expressible peptide asparaginyl ligases
Abstract Peptide asparaginyl ligases (PALs) are powerful tools for protein engineering but are limited by natural rarity and poor expression. We mine 23 cyclotide-rich Viola species, uncovering 29 PALs that expand the known repertoire to 47. A dual-objective screen identifies VdiPAL1 as the best-performed natural PAL, with twice efficiency of wt-VyPAL2 and 12 mg L-1 soluble expression in E. coli.

Microbial regulation of intestinal stem cell function: implications for alleviating intestinal injury of weaned piglets
Abstract This review highlights how gut microbiota regulates intestinal stem cell function. Weaning stress disrupts this balance, causing intestinal injury in piglets. However, targeted nutritional interventions can modulate the gut microbiota to restore ISC function and repair tissue damage. Understanding this microbe-ISC interaction provides new, effective strategies to improve gut health and alleviate weaning-induced injury in animals.
